About FAG

The establishment of the Faculty of Agriculture in 1981 was a response to the long felt need for sustained development of the region with respect to higher education. The Faculty was also expected to serve as a catalyst for the agricultural and socio-economic development of the region. The agriculture education offered and the agricultural research pursued by the Faculty cater to the special needs of the region as dictated by the specific agro-climatic zone of the country. Therefore, the Faculty of Agriculture has a vital role to play in the up liftment of the social and economic standards of a predominantly rural population, who depend largely on agriculture.

ACADEMIC PROGRAMME


The academic programme of the B.Sc, degree course in Agriculture shall be on a Semester Based Credit Unit System and shall be of four- (04) years duration. There shall be two semesters in each academic year. Each semester will be of 15 weeks duration.
The four-year degree programme will comprise eight (08) semesters. One Credit Unit represents 15 hours lectures or 30 hours practical / assignments/ field work or field tour.
The eight-semester degree programme includes six semesters of core programme and one semester of advanced programme. In addition to all the courses offered in the core programme, the common courses offered in the 7th semester are also compulsory to all students.
The core programme will be conducted from the first year first semester to third year second Semester. All the courses offered under core programmes are compulsory. At the end of the Core programme courses for 132 Credit Units will be completed.
The final year programme consists of common compulsory courses of 09 credit units, advanced courses of 06 credit units and a credit seminar of 01 credit unit, totaling 16 credit units in the seventh semester and a Research Project of 06 credit units in the eighth semester. Thus, the final year programme is comprised is of 22 credit units. Among the advanced courses, each student is expected to offer 02 courses in the area of specialization and one advanced course either from their area of specialization or from other Divisions/Departments.
